We hold that the people who use software are not its product. Every system in this collective is built to enlarge their agency, not to harvest it. These are the rights we will not trade for growth, capital, committee approval, or convenience — and the things we refuse to do to earn them.
You own your data, your keys, your identity, and your exit. Software should increase your agency, never quietly transfer it to a platform.
We do not build products whose business model is taking control away from the people who use them.
Privacy is not secrecy. You decide what is seen, by whom, and when. Your behavior is not raw material for profiling or coercive advertising.
We do not make surveillance the business model. Monetization comes from utility, access, and tools — not from watching you.
Every claim a system makes about you, or to you, can be traced to its source. No black boxes that cannot explain themselves.
We do not publish what we cannot trace. “I just know” is not a citation, and an unaccountable system is not allowed to run.
No single country, vendor, bank, platform, or regulator should be able to switch off your access. The network routes around captured nodes.
We do not let one chokepoint own the mission. Local-first by default; jurisdictional single points of failure are a bug, not a feature.
Status, recognition, and belonging come before money. You can join, contribute, and rise on merit and culture — not on capital alone.
We do not gate culture behind a paywall, and we do not invert the ladder by putting markets before meaning.
Broken things scream. Stale data marks itself stale. We would rather be loud and wrong than quiet and broken, because silence produces confident lies.
We do not ship silent failure, fake success, or dashboards that lie about being current.
If a thing we build ever violates one of these rights, that is the bug to fix first. Cypherpunks write code; this is the constraint the code is held to.
